Well, by now you probably know my favorite phrase of the winter, “I’m just the messenger!!!” (It also helps to say it with a smile!) I’ll be using that one again tonight as we have the possibility for a few wet snowflakes and even up to an inch of accumulation in Northern Maine. Temps will fall to the 32 to 38 degree range. And while I bet you’re thinking, well as long as we’re above 32 we should be good. Almost. Those are the surface temperatures, and while it’s quite helpful to have them above 32 degrees to avoid snow, if temps just above the surface are colder, we could still see some wet snowflakes. As you may have guessed, this is exactly the setup for tonight. Ugh! I know, I know; it’s almost May!
A slow moving low pressure system will continue to move, ever so slowly, away from the region. We will see rain showers overnight with a few snow showers mixing in. The best chance of some light snow accumulation (still under an inch) will be in northern Maine and in the mountains and higher elevations. We’ll see the light precipitation changing over to all rain tomorrow as highs warm into the upper 40s and low 50s. Things will taper off as we head into tomorrow evening. It’ll become a bit breezy tomorrow too, with winds from the north at 10 – 15 mph.
By Monday, we’ll have partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s. It’ll be windy again, with winds out of the north at around 15mph. Tuesday looks like we’ll see mostly sunny skies as a ridge of high pressure wedges its way into our area. Highs will be able to creep into the low to mid 50s. Wednesday looks great too. As the area of high pressure sticks around so does the sunshine. By Thursday, we’ll have increasing clouds with rain developing late as the next low pressure system moves in.
Tonight: Lows drop into the mid to upper 30s with rain/snow showers overnight.
Sunday: Highs in the upper 40s and low 50s with rain showers during the day tapering off in the evening. Breezy.
Monday: Highs in the upper 40s and low 50s with partly sunny skies. Windy.
Tuesday: Highs in the low to mid 50s with mostly sunny skies.
Wednesday: Highs in the 50s with mostly sunny skies.
Thursday: Highs in the upper 40s and low to mid 50s with increasing clouds and rain late.
