YARMOUTH, Maine (AP) — Mainers are celebrating Earth Day with events ranging from a search for invasive insects to a candidate for governor announcing his energy policy.

In one of the events Tuesday, state agencies are partnering with the town of Yarmouth to survey its ash trees for invasive Emerald Ash Borers from noon to 3 p.m.

Gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud is also coming to Yarmouth to announce his plan to cut heating costs and limit pollution that he says causes global warming.

Yarmouth Middle School students will present on invasive Green Crabs at the same 11:30 a.m. event. It’s taking place at the town boat launch.

State agencies also say they’ll announce funding stemming from USDA Rural Development that could be used in preserving a river.
