Fire Marshals are investigating a boat fire in Stonington.
Local fire departments were called to a moored boat off of Seabreeze Ave. just after 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The boat was completely engulfed in flames and took about two hours to put out.
What was left of the boat was taken ashore.
Fire marshals are working with Marine Patrol to determine the cause of the blaze.
“It’s way too early to tell,” says Sgt. Ken Grimes. “One of the things about a fire investigation is that we have to wait until we’ve combined the information about the scene as well as witness interviews until we can classify a fire and until we classify a fire we won’t know if its an accident; we won’t know if it’s a human element or intentional. It’s one of those things that its at the very end. ”
Officials tell us that boat fires are not uncommon this time of year, but they’ll continue to investigate until the cause is determined.
