From the TV 5 Forecast Center:
High pressure will slide through the area today giving us a beautiful start to the work week. We’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies today with highs topping off in the 50s to near 60°. As the area of high pressure slides to our east this afternoon, we’ll see clouds increasing mid-late afternoon as our next storm approaches from the south and west. Clouds will continue to thicken up early tonight followed by precipitation moving after midnight. It will be cold enough for the precipitation to start as some snow and/or mix for the Greenville area to Millinocket and points north while the remainder of the state sees plain rain. We could see a slushy inch or two of accumulation in spots by daybreak.
Low pressure is forecast to pass just to our west/northwest during the day Tuesday, keeping us on the warmer side of the storm. Any lingering mix over northern areas early in the day Tuesday will change to rain as milder air moves in. Rain will be steadiest during the morning hours Tuesday then taper to scattered showers from west to east across the state during the late morning and early afternoon. It looks like we’ll see a decent amount of rainfall with rainfall totals expected to range from about .5” to 1.5” in most locales, the heaviest of which will be over southern and coastal areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for some parts of the state to account for the potential of some minor flooding especially in poor drainage areas and some area rivers and stream as a result of the combination of snowmelt and the forecast rainfall. Despite the clouds and rain, temperatures will still reach the upper 40s to mid-50s for highs. Skies will clear out Tuesday night leading to a brighter and drier day Wednesday. We’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies Wednesday and slightly cooler temperatures on the backside of the departing storm. Temperatures will range from the upper 30s to mid-40s for highs on Wednesday. Clouds will start moving back into the region on Thursday as a cold front approaches from the west. The cold front is forecast to cross the state during the day Friday giving us the chance for a few showers to end the work week.
Rest of Today: mostly sunny early. Increasing clouds late. Mild with highs between 52°-60°. South/southwest wind around 10 MPH.
Tonight: becoming cloudy. Snow and mix developing after midnight from Greenville to Millinocket northward, rain elsewhere. Lows between 34°-39°. Southeast wind 5-15 MPH.
Tuesday: early mix to rain north, rain elsewhere. Rain will be steadiest during the morning then tapering to showers from west to east across the state from late morning on. Mild with highs between 47°-56°. Winds will become south/southwest 5-15 MPH.
Wednesday: partly to mostly sunny and cooler. Highs between 38°-48°.
Thursday: increasing clouds with highs in the 40s to near 50°.
