Senator Susan Collins addressed accomplished high school students across the state Saturday.

She served as the keynote speaker for a luncheon honoring one senior from each high school in Maine.

Each student was chosen by his or her principal.

The senator spoke highly of the group, saying this honor is a prelude to the next steps of their lives.

“They’re our future leaders,” the senator says.  “The future leaders of our communities, our state and our country. I want to encourage them to continue to excel but most of all my message today to them is to persevere and achieve their dream.”

Senator Collins gave a special shout out to her niece, Clara Collins, who was named the most outstanding senior at Caribou High School.
