From the TV 5 Forecast Center:
High pressure dominates today’s forecast with sunshine and highs in the low to mid-40s. Clouds will begin to increase across the state during the mid-late afternoon hours as high pressure moves to our east and our next storm system approaches from the west. Clouds will thicken up tonight with precipitation arriving in most locales after midnight. It will be cold enough so that precipitation will start out as snow and mix for areas away from the coast while coastal areas will be warm enough to see just plain rain. Nighttime temperatures will drop to the upper 20s to mid-30s from north to south for overnight lows.
Snow and mix will continue over northern areas Saturday while we see mix and rain elsewhere. The steadiest precipitation will move east of the state by around noontime on Saturday with just some lingering showers expected Saturday afternoon. By midday, snow/sleet accumulations will range from 2”-5” for areas north of Dover-Foxcroft and Lincoln and up to 2” for areas from Dover-Foxcroft to Lincoln southward to Bangor. Areas south of Bangor will see mainly rain from the storm so no snow/sleet accumulations expected in those spots. There will be some drier air coming in Saturday afternoon which may allow us to see some breaks of sunshine later in the day. Otherwise, clearing skies are expected Saturday night as high pressure builds into New England. High pressure will give us a great second half of the weekend with sunshine and 40s expected Sunday. Sunshine will stick around for Monday too and we’ll be a little milder with highs possible topping off in the low 50s in some locales. Another round of wet weather is forecast to move in for Tuesday.
Today: mostly sunny through early afternoon then increasing clouds later in the day. Highs between 40°-47°. Northeast wind 5-10 MPH becoming east.
Tonight: thickening clouds. Snow and mix developing mainly after midnight for areas away from the coast, mainly rain expected along the coast. Lows between 28°-35°. Southeast wind 10-15 MPH.
Saturday: snow and mix north of Greenville and Millinocket, mix and rain elsewhere. Precipitation will taper to scattered showers from west to east late morning through the afternoon. Some breaks of sunshine possible late. Snow/sleet accumulations by midday Saturday of 2”-5” possible north of Dover-Foxcroft and Lincoln, up to 2” from Dover-Foxcroft to Lincoln south to Bangor, no accumulation expected south of Bangor. Highs between 38°-46°. Winds will become northwest 5-15 MPH.
Sunday: a few lingering clouds early then becoming mostly sunny. Highs in the 40s.
Monday: sunny and pleasant. Highs in the mid-40s to low 50s.
Tuesday: mix and rain likely. Highs in the 40s.
