It doesn’t look like it yet in much of Maine, but spring has sprung in Bangor.

Friday was the first day of the BDN Maine Garden Show and Spring Fling at the Cross Center.

Not only can people check out gardens and purchase blossoming flowers, but there is a variety of activities for all ages, like gardening lectures, you can take a swing at golf, and there are crafts to buy and treats to taste.

People we spoke to Friday thought it was definitely a worthwhile event after a long winter.

“Today was really incredible. We had a big crowd this morning. A lot of people very excited as soon as they walked in to see this Cross Center all of a sudden transformed. We’re expecting with the weather not looking so hot tomorrow and the fact that everyone still has snow in their yard to really have this place full all weekend,” Pat Lemieux with the Bangor Daily News.

“I tell you. It’s been a long winter. We’re so pleased to be here at the 2014 BDN Maine Garden Show because I love to see people smile when they come through. There’s no snow in here in the auditorium, but there’s plenty of blooms and it’s beautiful,” said John Dunn, Manager at The By “Us” Company.

You can stop by the BDN Maine Garden Show and Spring Fling Saturday and Sunday.

The event goes from 10am-6pm Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday.

Admission is $7. Kids under 12 get in free.
