Like many of us, I wish I had learned this or that when I was a kid. And often our sentiment is, ‘I wish I had learned more about money.’
If you can find an easy way to help kids learn, a method that is fun and will teach great lessons even beyond what you know, how great would that be?
Meet The Centsables.
The Centsables are super hero-like characters that save the day, from a boatload of shenanigans and bad guys trying to undermine financial peace and harmony. Characters Greenback, Toro-nado, Veloci-Rabbit all teaching kids about credit , interest, budgets, investing and more.
The site encourages parents to teach basics and they have suggestions. For instance, you don’t need to be an expert to help kids understand ‘the 3 S’ They are saving, spending and sharing.
The site features 9 Tips for Money-Wise Kids. Including modeling good behavior, other tips are helping children recognize the difference between wants verses needs and the benefit of curtailing instant gratification.
Other tips include being smart about the way advertisers entice you and me, to ‘collect ‘em all,’ and other ways to be more aware.
The 9 Tips also encourages parents to let kids make mistakes. This is hard for some of us. But home is the safest place to fail. And failure is sometimes an extremely memorable teacher.
You teach the same principles every day. With the lessons and games from the Centsables, you can feel confident and have a top-of-mind plan for good financial literacy.
Until very recently these programs had been only available for fee to institutions. Now, they are available on cable. Thirteen episodes air Saturday monrings 11 a.m. on the Fox Business Channel.
