From the TV 5 Forecast Center:
High pressure will slide towards New England today providing us with mostly sunny skies to start the work week. Temperatures will be well below average (about 20° colder than average) this afternoon with highs only reaching the mid-teens to low 20s. Wind chills will be a factor today with northwest winds averaging 10-18 MPH and giving us wind chills in the single numbers and low teens during the day. Skies will be clear to partly cloudy tonight with temperatures bottoming out near or below zero for nighttime lows.
Clouds will be on the increase Tuesday as low pressure approaches from the south. Low pressure is forecast to rapidly strengthen off the east coast of the U.S. Tuesday and Wednesday. The latest data continues to track the storm east of New England and towards the eastern tip of Nova Scotia. This would keep the bulk of the storm just offshore and just graze eastern Massachusetts as well as central and eastern Maine with some light to moderate snow and possibly some strong winds. Based on the latest track, the heaviest snow will fall over Hancock and Washington County late Tuesday night and through Wednesday. There will be the potential for very strong winds today which will create blizzard conditions in spots. Blizzard conditions are met when winds are sustained or gusting to 35 miles per hour or higher, combined with falling or blowing snow, reducing visibilities to ¼ mile or less. A slight shift westward in the storm track will make a big difference and be more of a significant storm for us and vice versa if the storm were to track a bit further east so stay tuned to our forecasts this week for the latest information on the storm.
Our weather will be quiet for Thursday as a ridge of high pressure slides into the area. Weak low pressure is forecast to pass just north of the state on Friday giving us some mixed rain and snow showers. Milder air will move in for the end of the week too with temps on Friday topping off in the upper 30s to mid-40s.
