The Cross Center was filled with spirit Sunday for a statewide cheering competition.

47 teams came for the 18th Annual Junior High and Elementary Cheering Championships.

The Starlette All-Stars, Southern Maine Cheer Katz and Eastern Maine Elite were just some of the teams with routines.

Judges looked at form, technique and the overall performance toward the crowd to determine the top finishers.

“There’s many different age categories right from the three-year-olds which is the tiny division all the way up through the high school-aged kids,” says event co-director Toby Cole.  “And they have different rules on what they are and aren’t allowed to do in the divisions”.

Judges selected first and second place teams within divisions as well as individual and team awards.
