Police: 67-year-old Woman Died In Monmouth Crash

MONMOUTH, Maine (AP) — Authorities have released the name of the woman who died in a head-on car crash in Monmouth.

Police say 67-year-old Joan Fortier of Mount Vernon was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash on U.S. Route 202 at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car she was in, 70-year-old Gene Potter of Mount Vernon, and the driver of the other vehicle, 22-year-old Alyssa Marcellino of Winthrop, were both hospitalized.

Police say Marcellino’s vehicle drifted into the lane of oncoming traffic.

The crash remains under investigation but neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors.
