Some competitive teen musicians treated Tuesday’s concert like a “post-season” performance.
The District 6 High School Jazz Festival was held inside the Brewer Community School.
19 bands and ensembles gathered inside the performing arts center for the all day event.
Half of them received a 1 or 2 rating from the judges and qualified for the State Jazz Festival.
Lanissa Nadeau, the event’s co-organizer and local music teacher, said “Every year bands step it up. In today’s economic budget issues that schools have, for us to be able to have this many schools here and have this many students participating, it is really amazing.”
Bands from Brewer, Bucksport, Calais, Ellsworth, George Stevens Academy, Mount Desert Island, and Washington Academy qualified for the State Jazz Festival, at Hampden Academy, next month.
