From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:
Clouds associated with an approaching warm front will continue to thicken this morning. The warm front is part of a rather strong storm system that will be lifting north through the Great Lakes Region today. The warm front will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to Maine today. As the warm front slowly lifts north through Maine today, most of the mixed precipitation across Maine will change to rain later this morning over southern and coastal Maine, with central parts of the state seeing the icy mix continuing into the mid to late afternoon before it changes to all rain. Far northern parts of Maine will likely see snow change to sleet and freezing rain later in the afternoon, but sub-freezing surface temps will likely keep the precipitation from changing to plain rain north and west of the Moosehead Lake and Baxter State Park regions. A trailing cold front will bring another round of mostly rain showers to our region this evening. Snow and sleet accumulations will generally range from under 1″ over coastal Maine, with 1 to 3″ likely piling up well inland and up north, with a few spots across northern most Maine possibly seeing up to 4″.
Saturday will turn out partly sunny and somewhat milder than normal as high temps reach the 30s to low 40s across our region. A secondary cold front will bring a few flurries or snow showers to parts of Northern New England later Saturday night and Sunday as it crosses the Northeast. A cooler airmass will begin to filter back into New England as the cold front slides offshore Sunday and a northwest breeze picks up. Much colder air will build back into the northeast by the middle of next week.
Today: Morning snow and mix changing to mostly rain from south to north, with high temps in the low 30s to lo 40s from north to south.
Saturday: Partly sunny and mild, with high temps in the mid 30s to low 40s.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, few flurries and colder, with high temperatures in the upper 20s north to mid 30s south.
Monday: Variably cloudy, scattered snow showers possible and high temps in the 20s.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, breezy and cold, with high temps in the mid teens to mid 20s.
