Small business owners spoke out in favor of MaineCare expansion in Bangor Wednesday.
Members of the Maine Small Business Coalition and a representative from the Maine Psychological Association made their pitch at The Briar Patch Book Store.
They urge lawmakers to override the governor’s veto of the measure.
They were also joined by a local woman, Susan Alexa, who says keeping healthy is tough without health insurance.
“I am one of the 70,000 people that is currently without healthcare as of December 31st, 2013,” said Alexa.
“I think the important thing to take away is that this is no longer a partisan political issue. There are folks from the small business community, there are friends and our families and our neighbors who are making not just an economic case, but also a moral case that it’s time for everybody to have access to health care,” said Kevin Simonitz, Director of Maine Small Business Coalition.
Organizers at the rally urge Mainers to write to their local lawmakers.
