Stan Marshall, an AARP Tax-Aide Counselor, was in for this week’s Senior Spotlight to talk to us about the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program that offers free income tax preparation services to low and moderate income taxpayers of any age.
There are several locations in the greater Bangor area and throughout Maine.
Services are available by appointments on Mondays and Tuesdays at Eastern Area Agency on Aging and also on Mondays at Orono-Old Town YMCA. Penquis offers appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tax-Aide is available at the Bangor Public Library from 10 am to 5 pm without an appointment on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in February and on Wednesday and Thursday until April 10.
Also this year when preparing tax returns we also determine eligibility for the new Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit with a maximum value of $300 for taxpayers under 70 years old and $400 for those 70 or older.
