From the TV 5 Forecast Center:
Strong high pressure will slide through New England over the next 24 hours giving us a sunny and cold start to the work week. Highs will top off in the teens and low 20s this afternoon but feel colder with a gusty northwest wind factored in. northwest winds will be gusty today with gusts to 25 MPH possible. Skies will remain clear for much of the night tonight with a few clouds moving into western areas late. With clear skies and light winds expected, temperatures will be near or below zero in many spots by dawn.
On Tuesday, we’ll be tracking a weak area of low pressure that is forecast to pass just to the south of Maine. The day will start out dry with some early sunshine likely followed by increasing clouds as the day progresses. Light snow will develop from west to east across the state during the afternoon and evening. Snow will continue falling through Tuesday night and wind down in most locales by daybreak Wednesday. Accumulations will be light to moderate across the state with the heaviest accumulations falling over areas closer to the coast and over southern Maine. Accumulations will drop off as you move away from the coast and travel northward across the state.
We’ll have a break in the action Wednesday morning with a little morning sunshine possible then clouds will take over again and we’ll have another weak disturbance passing through the area during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will be milder Wednesday with highs in the 30s to near 40° for highs. We’ll likely see some more snow showers for most locations with mixed rain/snow showers possible closer to where temperatures will be in the mid and upper 30s. Any precipitation will move out later Wednesday night followed by clearing late as the storm moves away and high pressure builds in.
Sunshine will return to the forecast Thursday as high pressure slides into New England. Temperatures will be a bit milder with highs in the mid-30s to low 40s. Milder weather will around on Friday with highs topping off in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Another storm is expected to move in on Friday and with milder air in place, precipitation will likely start as snow and mix during the morning then transition to mix and rain from south to north during the afternoon.
Rest of Today: mostly sunny, breezy and cold. Highs between 15°-25°. Northwest wind 10-20 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH possible.
Tonight: clear start followed by increasing clouds late. Lows between -12° to +7°. Light and variable wind.
Tuesday: early sunshine giving way to increasing clouds. Light snow developing from west to east during the afternoon and evening. Highs between 22°-31°. Light winds will become southeast around 10 MPH.
Wednesday: mostly cloudy with snow showers likely. Mixed rain/snow possible closer to the coast. Milder with highs in the 30s to near 40°.
Thursday: mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the mid-30s to low 40s.
Friday: mostly cloudy with snow, mix and rain possible. Highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.
