From the TV 5 Forecast Center:
High pressure will slide into the region Tuesday and Wednesday providing us with some sunshine both days. An upper level disturbance will also be passing through the state today and will provide us with a few clouds as well so look for skies to average partly to mostly sunny with the bulk of the clouds over the northern half of the state. Temperatures will be cold especially today with highs expected to only reach the upper single numbers to mid-teens this afternoon. Highs will be a bit warmer Wednesday with temperatures reaching the mid-teens to low 20s during the afternoon.
Our focus then turns to Low pressure developing over the Gulf of Mexico later tonight and tracking across northern Florida tomorrow and towards the Carolina coastline tomorrow night. Computer data is now in better agreement showing the storm tracking northward along the east coast Thursday and forecast to pass near Cape Cod then towards the Bay of Fundy Thursday night into the first half of Friday. With this track being closer to New England, there is now a good chance we’ll see a significant snowfall across much of Maine to end the week. Thursday will start out dry and we’ll see a little morning sunshine giving way to increasing clouds by late morning into the early afternoon. Snow will begin spreading into the region from north to south during the mid-late afternoon and become steadier and heavier Thursday night. The storm will be close enough to the area that we may see some mixed precipitation and possibly some rain along the coast otherwise it will be cold enough for precipitation to fall as all snow in most locales. Snow and any mix will taper off from southwest to northeast across the state during the morning and early afternoon hours Friday. We could see another storm, albeit weaker and with less moisture, moving into the area with some light snow Saturday.
Rest of Today: partly to mostly sunny. Colder with highs between 11°-22°. Northwest wind 5-15 MPH. Wind chills will be near or below 0°.
Tonight: becoming clear. Very cold with lows between -15° north to near 0° along the coast. Northwest wind 5-10 MPH.
Wednesday: mostly sunny with highs between 15°-22°. Northwest wind 5-10 MPH becoming southwest.
Thursday: becoming cloudy with snow developing during the afternoon. Some mixed precipitation possible along the coast. Highs between 27°-36°.
Friday: snow and mix tapers off during the morning then mostly cloudy. Highs mainly in the 30s.
Saturday: mostly cloudy with light snow possible. Colder with highs in the mid-20s to around 30°.
