New Residency Restrictions for Sex Offenders in Bangor

A new ordinance in Bangor is setting more restrictions on where sex offenders can live.

City councilors approved it Monday night in a 6 to 3 vote.

Last year, they passed a regulation that prohibited sex offenders from living within 750 feet of schools or public property that children primarily use.

The new ordinance now restricts offenders from property that is leased to non-profit groups who use it as a park, athletic field or recreational facility for children.

City officials say the adjustments are in line with changes to the state law.
