For the second time in less than three weeks a man armed with a hammer has robbed a Bingham bank in broad daylight. But authorities have stopped short of saying it’s the same thief.
The Skowhegan Savings Bank on Main Street was robbed just after 1:00 this afternoon.
Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriffs Department says a man walked into the bank wearing a ski mask and demanded money. He fled the bank on foot with some cash. A state police dog tracked the robber but lost scent on a side street near the bank.
“There was a bank robbery here on the 17th,” Lancaster said, referring to the robbery at a neighboring bank. “We’re going to be checking to see if there are any connections between the two. But we cannot say unequivocally at this point that they are connected.”
The robber is described as:
* 5′ 10″ to 6′ tall
* Slender with light-colored eyes.
