Saturday marks the start of the Chinese New Year.
The Year of the Horse begins at midnight.
Members of Maine’s Chinese community got an early start on celebrations Friday afternoon.
For the second year in the row, the day has been marked by a parade at the Bangor Mall.
The event was sponsored by the Chinese Language and Cultural Center of Maine, along with the Bangor Chinese School and the Maine China Network.
Students came from all over the state to enjoy the festive event.
One high-schooler we met is studying abroad and the parade made him feel right at home.
“I am very surprised how a lot of American persons like China. And the long dragon! And everybody friendly,” said Joe, a student Chinese student at Stearns High School.
Oriental Jade Restaurant welcomed local leaders and parade participants for a reception after the event.
