Portland Arena Tries To Lure Pirates Back To City

Updated 6 months ago

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The trustees of the Cumberland County Civic Center have sent the Portland Pirates a lease proposal they hope will lure the minor league hockey team back to Portland.

Details of the proposed lease were not released.

Neal Pratt, the chairman of the trustees, tells the Portland Press Herald, that the Pirates have until the end of Monday to respond.

The team had no comment on the proposal.

The Pirates planned to return to the civic center with a five-year lease upon completion of a $34 million renovation project. Instead, they’re currently playing at the Androscoggin Bank Coliseum in Lewiston after the two sides were unable to resolve their differences over revenue from alcohol sales.
