AUBURN, Maine (AP) — An Auburn woman has been sentenced to serve eight months behind bars after pleading guilty to stealing more than $120,000 from her former employer.

Prosecutors say 53-year-old Candice Campbell stole the money from Greene-based food wholesaler Town & Country Foods.

She was sentenced Tuesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court to serve eight months of a six-year sentence, followed by three years of probation. She was also ordered to pay more than $121,000 in restitution.

She pleaded guilty in September.

The owner of the business that supplies schools, hospitals, restaurants and others tells the Sun Journal, that Campbell was responsible for handling cash receipts for years and the amount of money taken may have been much higher.

Campbell’s lawyer said his client regretted her actions.
