A boat made in Maine with a mission to sail around the world has ended its journey.
76-year-old Stanley Paris is the captain of the Kiwi Spirit, which was built at Lyman-Morse in Thomaston.
Paris hoped to break four world records on the boat, including being the oldest person to solo circumnavigate the world, non-stop and unassisted.
Paris called off the trip earlier this week after the boat was damaged the day after Christmas off the coast of Brazil.
The Kiwi Spirit’s journey ended in Cape Town, South Africa.
That’s where the boat will be repaired.
Paris then plans to sail it to the Caribbean and back to Maine.
