Charleston Man Appears in Court on Arson Charges

A man accused of starting a fire at the Mount View Youth Development Center in Charleston was in court in Bangor Monday.

20-year-old Martin Pike is charged with arson and criminal mischief.

Authorities say he started a fire with pieces of graphite from a pencil, causing $3,000 in damage.

His lawyer says it was a prank gone wrong.

Pike is being held on $3,500 cash bail.

He’s expected back on court in March.
