From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:
The combination of high pressure moving east off the Mid-Atlantic Coastline and an intensifying storm sliding north well to the west of New England Saturday will bring an increasing southerly wind to Maine. The gusty southerly breeze will draw a moist airmass up the Eastern Seaboard and into New England during the first half of the weekend. The atmosphere will warm significantly today to allow this morning freezing drizzle and freezing rain to turn over to plain rain as the day moves along,. Precipitation Saturday will start out light, but by later in the day the rainfall will become steadier and heavier, with rain likely heavy at times during the evening hours. One too two inches of rain will likely fall across our region but very icy conditions will exist until the surface temps rise above freezing later this morning and very early this afternoon. Heavy non freezing rain along with melting snow and ice could lead to localized flooding all across the Pine Tree State. A strong southerly breeze may gust to near 50 mph later in the day Saturday and early Saturday night. The gusty south wind will cause afternoon and evening temps to climb well up into the 40s all across the state.
Slightly cooler air will move back into our region Sunday as the wind shifts into the northwest behind the storms trailing cold front. A few more rain or snow showers may fall Sunday as the cooler air spills back into Maine, but temps will still run a few to several degrees above normal. A weak ridge of high pressure will bring Maine a partly sunny and mild start to the workweek Monday. Another storm may move up the Eastern Seaboard Tuesday or Wednesday and bring more rain or snow back to our region as temps will continue to run above normal. Colder and more seasonable air will return to the Northeast late in the workweek.
Today: Freezing rain this morning with VERY ICY ROADS & WALKWAYS then changing to plain rain late this morning and early this afternoon. Rain will be heavy at times later in the day, with strong a gusty wind and high temps in the 40s to near 50.
Saturday night: Rain, heavy at times, with low temps in the mid 30s to low 40s.
