A fire in Orrington left a family of 5 homeless this afternoon.

Crews were called to the scene on Clark Falls Road just after 2 pm.

Responders say the fire started on the first floor and quickly spread to the second.

Firefighters first tried to attack the flames from inside but were forced to move outside when the roof weakened.

“The structure is not stable, the interior. So we are going to be doing a lot of exterior work at this point,” said Scott Stewart, Orrington’s assistant fire chief.

Mutual aid was called in from Brewer, Bucksport, Dedham, Eddington, and Hampden.

Nobody was injured.

The cause is under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping the family.
