We’ll see a few snow showers during the day today, especially in northern locations, as a low pressure system approaches from the Great Lakes region. A storm will move into our area tonight, due to another low pressure area currently in the Mid Atlantic, bringing some plowable to snow to almost everyone except for residents along the immediate coast who will see rain. As you head inland snowfall totals will increase rapidly reaching the 5-9” range for inland sections of the state as the mixing with rain because more difficult with colder air. The steadier snow, that could be heavy at times, will start in the late evening tonight and last into the early morning on Monday. Things will clear out by Monday afternoon. Temperatures stay fairly comfortable and seasonable for Sunday and Monday. Monday night’s lows cool off significantly with all locations falling below zero.
Tuesday things stay cold with mostly sunny skies as a high moves into the region. We’ll see temps in the single digits and teens and negative single digits for highs. Overnight lows New Year’s Eve drop back down to below zero in most spots. For the start of 2014 we’ll have temperatures will below normal. Highs only make it into the single digits for the most part on Wednesday. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds as a weak cold front crosses the area. Overnight lows Wednesday night range from -25 to -5, so it will be frigid. Thursday we’ll see the sun return but temps stay cold ranging from the negative single digits to positive single digits as a high pressure system from Canada moves into the state.
Sunday: Highs range from 14°-34° coldest in northern locations and significantly warmer at the coast. We’ll see mostly cloudy skies and snow showers during the day with the rain/snow event moving in during the evening.
Monday: Highs will range from 23°-31° Rain/snow wraps up early with skies partially clearing in the afternoon. Very cold Monday night.
Tuesday: Highs range from -3° to 13° with mostly sunny skies.
Wednesday: Highs range from 0° to 11° with partly sunny skies.
Thursday: Highs range from -8° to 10° with mostly sunny skies.
