A lawyer from Brewer has been suspended from practice for the next four years.

The Board of Overseers of the Bar issued the suspension for Jay Otis.

The board found he violated several provisions of the Maine Rules of Professional Conduct.

During his suspense, Otis was ordered to take part in the Maine Assistance Program for Lawyers and Judges, which helps people dealing with alcoholism, drug abuse and mental or emotional disorders.

He also has to pay more than $9,000 in legal fees.

Otis can ask to be reinstated to the Maine Bar in March of 2017.
