From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:
The ridge of arctic high pressure that brought the bright and cold weather to New England this Christmas day will slip off to our east late tonight and early tomorrow. Low temps tonight will fall into the single numbers to very low teens, with some locals up north dipping below zero.
As the high slips off to our east early tomorrow a storm will slide across southern Ontario and Quebec. A period of light snow will develop across Maine as the storms trailing cold front slides east towards New England. A small storm will likely develop along the front as it slips east into the Gulf of Maine later in the day and that would cause snow to briefly become a bit steadier and heavier later in the afternoon and early evening. The steadiest snow later tomorrow afternoon and evening will likely be over eastern parts of the state. Temps ahead of the cold front will climb into the 20s to low 30s from north to south across the Pine Tree State. Snowfall from this fast moving small clipper type storm will likely range from under 2” over northwestern parts of Maine to as much as 3 to 6” from the Augusta and Bangor regions on east to the coastline.
As the storm departs to our northeast seasonably cold air will return to Maine along with partial sunshine Friday. Saturday will be fair and a bit milder as high pressure slips east towards the Mid-Atlantic Coastline. A southwest breeze will bring slightly milder weather to our region Sunday before a cold front turns the wind back into the northwest early Monday which will draw a fresh batch of arctic air down into Maine for the last couple of days of 2013 and the first few days of 2014.
