Ukeleles Bring Help to the Homeless in Bangor

A certain kiosk in the Bangor Mall is drawing attention.

“They’re really popular. Everybody loves it because they’re so easy to learn, so easy to play. they have a beautiful sound,” said Ivan Valladares,¬†Owner of the “Think Jesus” booth at the mall.

Ukuleles are the popular item at the kiosk.

Not only because they’re fun to play, but because the money goes back into the community.

“You get something you like and you actually help other people too,” said Valladares.

Proceeds from this booth go to City Reach Bangor, an organization which helps the homeless in our area.

The owner said, “It works out good. We love it because it gives us pleasure to work within the community, help people in the community and then what we get we give it back.”

The chapter in Bangor started in May, but their profits have doubled since then.

“People are very excited about it. We show them love and show them that somebody cares about them,” said Valladares.

By next year, the organization plans to have more locations throughout the state.
