Not Properly Disinfected Scopes May Pose Risk to Patients

Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville is offering free health screenings to patients who may have been exposed to equipment that was not properly disinfected.

The President of the hospital says it involves scopes used to conduct a cystoscopy, which is a urological procedure, between September 9th of 2011 and October 25th of this year.

The procedures were done at both Dean Hospital and Northwoods Healthcare.

We’re told the health risk is small.

AS a precaution, patients who underwent that procedure can call for a free follow-up test.

A 24-hour dedicated phone line has been set up: 349-0933.
