This has been a historic year for investment in Maine’s rural communities.
USDA Rural Development announced today the agency has invested more than $450M in home ownership, small businesses, energy development and community improvements.
Program director Virginia Manuel says Maine is in the top ten compared to states its size in federal rural development investing.
“We are really thrilled at that number because we just never believed in our wildest dreams we’d reach that with all the reductions at the federal level. So we’re very happy to have gotten that money in the Maine economy,” said Manuel.
Single and multi-family housing got the largest part of the funding here in Maine, helping more than 2,000 people become homeowners in the past year.
