A standoff, that started as a family dispute, ended peacefully in Harrington Thursday, according to State Police.

After hours of negotiations, a father, Vernon Robinson Sr., and his son, Elliot Robinson, are under arrest.

State Police tell us they were contacted by DHHS officials, concerned about the care of an elderly woman, their wife and mother, living at the home off of Route 1.

Police say the men made violent threats when they got there.

Negotiators and the tactical team were called in after that.

Route 1 in Harrington was blocked off at Sacarap Road heading north and at North Road on Route 1 heading south.

Traffic was detoured around the area.

Police say the two men surrendered around 6:30 pm Thursday.

“This was successful as you can get. Our negotiators did a great job. ¬†We’re very happy with the resolution. We made sure to take the time so this ended peacefully and we’re very happy that it did so,” said Lt. Roderick Charette with the Maine State Police.

Police say the 84-year-old woman is in stable condition.

She was taken to the hospital.

Police say the father and son are being held in the Washington County Jail.

They are being charged with criminal restraint.

This is so sad….I understand protecting those we love, but by doing this they are of no use to this woman they obviously love and care about…..a matter of misguided motives, I hope this gets resolved
