SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A delegation from the Russian city of Archangel is visiting the greater Portland area this week to mark the 25th anniversary of a sister-city agreement between the communities.

The 15-member delegation, which includes three high school students, arrived in Maine on Saturday to begin a weeklong stay that will include visits to historic sites.

The Portland Press Herald, reports that the Russians and their Maine hosts spent Sunday at the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth and the Liberty Ship Memorial at Bug Light Park in South Portland.

Archangel Vice Mayor Vladimir Garmashov said through an interpreter that being in Maine feels like being at home.

Portland City Councilor Edward Suslovic says while there are many difference between the communities, there are even more similarities.
