BATH, Maine (AP) — The victim of a fatal car crash in Bath has been identified as a beloved longtime teacher at the Hyde School.
Police announced Thursday that the victim of Wednesday night’s crash was 65-year-old Paul Hurd of Phippsburg.
Police say Hurd’s car was headed south on High Street when it veered off the road, continued up a grade and struck an unoccupied car parked in a driveway.
Lt. Robert Savary says it does not appear as if alcohol or drugs were involved, and Hurd may have suffered some sort of medical emergency behind the wheel.
The private boarding school is in mourning. Associate head of school Richard Truluck says Hurd was a “pillar” of the school community who had left an “indelible mark” in his 35 years on the staff.
