NTSB Report: Pilot Error Caused Matinicus Crash

Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board say pilot error caused a deadly plane crash near Matinicus Island two years ago.

Donald Campbell, 57, of Waldoboro, was delivering freight and groceries to the island when his Cessna went down in October 2011.

Witnesses said Campbell was trying to land when the plane was disturbed by a gust of wind and crashed into trees.

The NTSB report says Campbell ” failed to maintain airplane control during the approach.”
