Surfin’ Santa Keeps Tradition Going

He says he does it because he hates to break tradition. Saturday on the Penobscot River in Bangor, Santa Clause could be seen riding a wave runner.

The man known as “Surfin’ Santa” made his traditional ride up the Penobscot, but he wasn’t wind surfing as hehas since the 1980’s.
Charlie Sargent was injured in a motorcycle ride and he says that’s the reason for his new ride. People lined up on the waterfront to wave as he passed.

“Well it’s been a tradition long time ago one of my friends dared me to go out on the river and I’ve always taken it up on him,” Sargent said.

This was the first year Mrs. Claus and the Grinch joined Santa.
