Voters Will Decide the Fate of New Maine Maritime Academy Building

Updated 1 year ago

Three bond questions on this year’s ballot center around higher education in Maine.

Question four focuses on improvements to the Maine Maritime Academy.

If approved, the $4.5 million bond would help build a new science facility on campus.

So far, the school has raised two thirds of the funds for the $15 million building.

President of Maine Maritime Academy, Bill Brennan, said, “The private sector by and large is going to fund it, but it will be a public building and we feel that it’s an investment on the part of the people in the state of Maine in a public institution.”

The president of the academy said they haven’t built a new classroom building for 30 years.
