State Police are asking for help to identify the body of a woman found floating in the Penobscot River in Hampden Monday morning.
Police say two kayakers spotted the body about 20 to 30 feet from shore, off Cottage Road.
It’s now been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for an autopsy.
Police say the woman appears to be in her 50s or 60s, short reddish hair, wearing jeans and a leather-like coat.
It appears she had only been in the river for few days.
A neighbor tells TV5 that the Hampden Police Department was this area Sunday night shining flashlights and seemed to be looking for someone.
Detectives will review any missing persons reports to try to identify the woman.
Anyone with information on her is asked to call State Police in Orono at 866-2122.
