Police say a woman was arrested Wednesday for embezzling more than $18,000 from two restaurants she worked for.
39-year-old Melanie Allen of Union was charged with class B theft and class B forgery.
Detective Russell Thompson says the amount stolen is expected to grow once the investigation is complete.
Police believe the money was taken during Allen’s time as a bookkeeper for the restaurants, owned by the same woman.
She is scheduled to make her first court appearance in Rockland District Court Friday.
Allen is currently being held in the Knox County Jail on $2,000 bail.
