Jackson Lab Receives $8.2 Million for Egg, Sperm Research

The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor is getting $8.2 million to study egg and sperm formation.

The federal grant will cover five years of research.

Scientists will focus on a key protein that helps produce sperm or eggs.

They hope to find out more about how the protein works and how it combines with DNA.

They say unlocking some of those mysteries could help scientists also have a better understanding of everything from nerve transmission to the origins of cancer.
