Bangor Councilors Support Suboxone Moratorium

Councilors are looking to curb the expansion of suboxone treatment in Bangor.

The Government Operations Committee unanimously approved a plan Tuesday that would impose a 180-day moratorium on permitting locations providing that treatment.

Suboxone is a prescription drug typically used to treat opiate addiction.

The council would use that time to review the city’s land use regulations related to chemical dependency and possibly reconsider the provision allowing that type treatment in Bangor.

The committee’s recommendation now goes to a full council for a first reading.

Councilor Joe Baldacci says he doesn’t think any action will be taken on the issue before elections in November.

Also at that meeting, the Bangor Band suggested purchasing a portable, inflatable acoustic shell for their concerts.

The committee wants to know what kind of wind the shell could withstand before taking any action.
