Senator Collins Played Key Role Re-Opening Government

Senator Susan Collins played a key role in the negotiations to end the partial federal government shutdown.

She was part of a bi-partisan group of 14 senators who worked on a plan that led to a short-term solution being passed.

“My hope is that the budget committee will come up with the kind of long-term plan to correct the fiscal imbalance in our country. I’m also hopeful that they will come up with some cuts in mandatory spending that will help relieve the unfairness of what is known as sequestration,” said Senator Susan Collins.
