Fire Chief: Winslow Fire Appears Suspicious

Updated 1 year ago

Authorities tell us a fire that destroyed an old garage and part of a home in Winslow appears to have been intentionally set.

The call came in around 3:00 Wednesday afternoon.

Josh Veilleux of the Winslow Police Department said witnesses reported seeing a vehicle pull up to the home on at 450 South Reynolds Road then speed off. Shortly after the vehicle left, the garage was in flames.

When fire crews arrived they say it the entire area was in flames.

“On the way out here we had reports of explosions,” said David LaFountain, Fire Chief in Waterville and Winslow. “When our units pulled up to the scene the first thing they saw was a garage that was totally involved there was a camper trailer and an automobile and a side of a house. So they had their hands full right away.”

Stephen Dyer, who owns the property, tells us a thunderstorm had blown the garage down over the summer and it was little more than a pile of rubble. Dyer’s father had lived in the home since the mid-90’s but he recently passed away leaving the property to him. No one is currently living in the home.

LaFountain sid the fire marshals office has been called in to investigate.
