One woman was killed and two others were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision Monday afternoon in Unity Township.
Sgt. Frank Hatch of the Kennebec County Sheriffs Department said a man driving East on the Waterville Road might have been distracted by his dog riding with him, causing him to cross the center line. The truck struck another vehicle head-on.
Hatch said one woman was pronounced dead at the scene and two other people riding with the victim were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive.
The accident happened just after 2:00 and part of route 139 in Unity Township is closed as the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department investigates.
“We’re going to be doing an accident reconstruction and then based on the accident reconstruction and interviews that are being done currently we’ll sit down with the District Attorney’s office and make the determination if any charges are going to come out of it,” Hatch said.
Authorities are not yet releasing the names of those involved in the accident until families have been notified.
