A State Trooper who responded to the scene, along with Old Town and area Police Departments and Penobscot County Sheriff Deputies, shot and killed the Oullette.
Authorities say they responded to the Main Street apartment around 6 pm after a he called police saying he stabbed his girlfriend.
When police arrived, the he refused to let them in and refused to let two children in the apartment out.
Police were eventually able to get the two and four-year-old out safely.
Officials would not say their relation to the children.
After almost 45 minutes on scene, they say a State Trooper fired at the man.
Upon entering the apartment, police say the male and female, both believed to be in their 30s, were deceased.
The officer that shot at the man, Trooper Barry Meserve, a 15 year veteran of the State Police, has been placed on administrative leave. This is standard procedure while the Attorney General’s Office investigates.
