A teenage girl, involved in a car accident in Bucksport, has died, according to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Bucksport Public Safety confirmed Taylor Darveau, a student at Bucksport High School was killed.
Responders said that just before 6:30 pm, a car driving north on Bucksmills Road left the roadway. Police say Darveau was not driving the car, a 16-year-old girl was driving.
The car struck a tree and the people in the car became trapped in a ditch.
One witness described seeing the incident saying, “Just seen a lot of smoke. I kind of did a double take. Between the time it took me to immediately look away and look back, the car was in the ditch. A lot of smoke, ran after it.”
“The vehicle left the road, came to rest in the ditch, against a tree. At this time, the occupants have been transported to the hospital for an evaluation,” said Sergeant David Winchester of the Bucksport Police Department.
Orland Fire and Rescue provided mutual aid.
Responders say a LifeFlight helicopter landed nearby but it is unclear if that’s how they were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Bucksport High School is offering grief counseling for students on Friday.
The school’s football game has been postponed until Saturday night at 7pm at Orono.
The girl’s soccer game will also be played at Orono at 2pm on October 5th.
