AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is holding a ceremony to raise awareness for domestic violence and honor victims and their families.
The Republican governor will host the event at the State House on Wednesday. He is expected to declare October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and announce a community initiative for domestic violence victims and their families.
LePage has advocated for increased domestic abuse prevention and awareness since taking office in 2011.
The governor’s office says that six of the 17 homicides that have taken place in Maine this year have been related to domestic violence.
