Intruder Shot Dead In Rome

Updated 1 year ago

A man accused of breaking into a home in Rome didn’t make it out alive and state police say a man living in that home opened fire on the intruder and killed him.

State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland sais Monday that 44-year-old Christopher Dennison of  Livermore Falls had brass knuckles and was wearing a ski mask when he forced his way into a home on Foss Hill Lane around 8:00 Saturday night.

State Police say 48-year-old Richard Duffy, who lived there, shot Dennison multiple times after the two men fought in the living room.

No charges have been filed but state police are still investigating.

“Obviously a lot of work will remain,” McCausland said Monday. “The ballistic tests will be done, the medical examiner’s information will be compiled and detectives will also certainly do their report. Then this will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for a decision of whether charges are appropriate.”

State Police do not believe the two men knew each other.

Duffy and his teenage son were home at the time of the break-in.

Neither of them was hurt.
