The medical examiner’s office has positively identified the second body found in a burned out home in Oakfield Monday as that of 49-year-old Heidi Pratt.

32-year-old Matthew Davis of Houlton is charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths.

The medical examiner says Pratt died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

51-year-old Michael Kitchen died from multiple gunshots wounds.

Police say Davis first crashed his truck into a building at Katahdin Forest Products Monday morning and stole a truck from the company. They say he then drove to the couple’s house in Oakfield, killed them, then set their house and a pick-up on fire.

Davis then reportedly stole a truck from their garage, drove it to Island Falls, set that on fire and got into a kayak.

According to police, Davis took the kayak across the lake and stole another car.

Police arrested him Monday morning on Beaver Dam Point Road.

Police don’t know if Davis knew the victims.

They reportedly found a wallet with a picture of Michael Kitchen in it, in the area where they arrested Davis.

They also found two firearms that belong to Davis – one was on a victim’s chest, the other in a burning truck.

Davis remains in jail, with no bail.

He’s scheduled to be back in court in February.
